What Is Second Flush Tea?
The quality and flavour of Second Flush Teas are well-known. The liquor has a vibrant, full-bodied flavour. It has a distinct “Muscatel” flavour that is only found in Second Flush teas. It is the most prized and sought-after tea among tea enthusiasts. The tea is high in polyphenols, which act as potent antioxidants and help you stay healthy. Darjeeling tea, sometimes known as the “Champagne of Teas,” has a distinct flavour and taste that can’t be found anywhere else in the world due to its geographical location and natural environment.
Darjeeling has various seasons for tea production, with early picking commencing in late March. The second plucking, known as the ‘Second Flush,’ happens after a brief period in late April, May, and June. Tea is also brewed after the summer rains, and ‘Autumnal’ tea is becoming increasingly popular. The tastes change with the seasons and are influenced by the environment and the method of processing.
The plucking season, which runs from May to June, is known as the Second Flush. Second Flush teas are frequently chosen over First Flush teas by aficionados of robust and full-bodied teas since the flavour is greater. The scent of muscatel is quite unique.
The flavour develops in part as a result of sap-sucking insects such as jassids and thrips damaging the immature tea leaves. As an insect repellant, the tea plant generates terpene. The muscatel taste comes from the greater terpene content.
